The Harriets’ first, self-titled EP was cut in the recording studio at Leeds Beckett University, with additional overdubs in Zach Pygall’s home studio.
The intention of the release was to encapsulate four different sides of the Harriets’ songs up to that point. ‘Harry’ is a ferocious up-tempo surf-rock song, written and arranged in two quick writing sessions, and has been a long-serving closer or encore for the band’s live set. ‘A Thousand Other Things’ is an old song of Ben’s which was worked on intensively in the studio with multiple layers of guitars. ‘Lady With Your Name’ is a slower, more atmospheric number with a Smiths-inspired riff, and ‘Goodbye, Home Again’ a folk-rock ballad of Dan’s. After several months of work on the record, the band put on their own launch event at Wharf Chambers, Leeds, supported by Lunablind and Ben Lucas.
